What are blade terminals?

2026 05/26

Plug-in connectors became widespread in the early 20th century, and their basic design has remained largely unchanged. They are used in applications such as industrial control panels, automotive wiring, and consumer electronics.
Capable of handling 15-30 amps, they are suitable for heaters, motors, and power supplies. They may be actively replaced before corrosion, spring tension loss, or thermal cycling.

Material Specifications: Terminals must possess specific properties, which are determined by the choice of material. According to the text in *Electrical Contacts: Principles and Applications*, edited by Paul Slade, these properties include
low conductivity, an appropriate spring constant, good structural strength, resistance to surface film growth, and low hardness to provide low constant resistance. Copper alloys retaining 75% or more copper are the most commonly used
materials for terminals. If a spring is included in the design, bronze is typically used. Plating on terminals can improve their performance and lifespan. Terminals can be plated with another precious metal (silver, gold, palladium, tin, etc.)
to improve resistance to film growth and maintain low contact resistance.

Maximum Voltage: 600V
Wire Gauge: 8 AWG to 22 AWG
Insulator Color Coding Corresponds to AWG: Red: 18-22 AWG; Blue: 16-14 AWG; Yellow: 12-10 AWG
Termination Method: Crimp; Crimping creates a hermetically sealed connection
Locking Mechanism: Some shovel connectors include retaining grooves, positive locking housings, or locking clips to prevent failure due to vibration.

Blade Width: 2.8 mm, 4.8 mm, 6.3 mm

Terminals are widely used in vehicles, home appliances (white goods), and small electrical devices. These terminals are commonly processed and assembled using advanced Crimping Machine solutions to ensure stable electrical connections and high production efficiency.

Pulley connectors, also known as insulated blade terminals, are used for quick and easy connection of wires to screws, terminals, or batteries. These simple devices offer tensile strength, thermal conductivity, and resistance to
impact and corrosion. They can be equipped with insulating housings, typically color-coded, or presented as bare conductive metal terminals.

These metal terminals are usually in the form of blades or double-pronged (open blade terminals), allowing them to slide under the screw head without completely unscrewing the screw. Modern production of these terminals
often relies on  Semi-Automatic Crimping Machine equipment to improve crimping accuracy, consistency, and manufacturing productivity.
